Yosegi-zaiku is a type of traditional Japanese marquetry developed in Edo period (1603-1868) in the town of Hakone. It involves using small, precisely cut pieces of wood of different colors and textures to create intricate geometric patterns and designs. These pieces are then carefully sliced into thin plates which are glued on boxes and other handicraft works.  The resulting pieces are highly prized for their beauty and intricate designs, and yosegi art continues to be a popular form of traditional Japanese craftsmanship to this day. Last winter, I had the pleasure of visiting a respected craftsman's studio (@honmayosekiartmuseum) and acquiring several of his exquisite works, along with some of the beautiful  scraps he had available. Fueled by a desire to repurpose these materials, I’ve decided to combine and arrange them to create a unique and personal work of art, imbued with my own creative interpretation.
